George Coleman Throws Support Behind Minister Koomson’s Women Empowerment Advocacy”

In a compelling interview aired on GHLIFE TV’s Sunrise, veteran broadcaster George Coleman Armah, fondly known as Uncle George, echoed the sentiments voiced by Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Hon Mavis Hawa Koomson.

Hon Koomson’s recent emphasis on the necessity for heightened government investment in fostering the social, economic, and political engagement of women, particularly highlighted during her address in Parliament on International Women’s Day, March 8, 2024, resonated deeply with Uncle George.

The Minister of Fisheries, Hon. Hawa Koomson, who doubles as the Caretaker Minister for the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection has called for increased advocacy for the promotion of gender equality, equity, and women and girls empowerment in Ghana.

“The Speaker, investing in women is not only an economic strategy it includes their human, social, and health rights and needs. Therefore as a country, we must consider policies that enhance equality and equity and the full integration of women into the national development process for sustainable growth” she mentioned.

Speaking alongside hosts Nanna Adjoa Akomah Amoako and Akua Asiedua Sarpong on Monday, March 12, 2024, Uncle George firmly stated that it is imperative to entrust the nation’s leadership to women. Expressing dissatisfaction with the performance of both the current and past administrations, he passionately advocated for a shift towards female leadership, citing their potential to effectively steer the country.

Armah’s endorsement of heightened female representation in leadership comes at a pivotal moment, coinciding with the National Democratic Congress’s groundbreaking decision to appoint Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang as the party’s first female running mate.

As Ghana navigates evolving perspectives on gender equality and leadership, Uncle George’s stance emerges as a significant contribution to the ongoing discourse surrounding women’s pivotal roles in shaping the nation’s future.
