NPP’s Ellen Daaku Challenges NDC’s Drone Deployment ; Urges EC to Embrace Technology”
Ellen Daaku, a prominent figure within the NPP’s national committee, has conveyed skepticism regarding the recent announcement made by the NDC concerning the deployment of drones for monitoring the 2024 polls. During an exclusive interview on the Citi TV morning show “Breakfast Daily” with host Kwaku David on March 13th, 2024, Daaku voiced her reservations.
‘The last time I checked, the NDC couldn’t collate their results, so if they think that it is drones that will help them do that, I don’t think it is a problem.”
Daaku’s comments are in response to the NDC’s initiative to use drones in an effort to enhance transparency during the electoral process. Despite her reservations, Daaku acknowledged the NDC’s right to explore innovative approaches.
On Monday, a senior NDC official revealed plans to deploy drones in the region around the capital, Accra, in an effort to enhance election monitoring.
Emmanuel Nii Ashie Moore said the plan was part of the strategy to secure over two million votes for the party in the region, which they believe will be crucial in determining the outcome of the poll.
“Next week, we are going to train constituency executives on how to use drones to monitor what happens during the elections,” Mr Moore was quoted as saying.
During the interview, Daaku also urged the Electoral Commission (EC) to embrace technological advancements and integrate the use of drones into their systems. She stressed the significance of adapting to the changing world.
“The world is advancing, and it’s about time the Electoral Commission upped their game, including the flying of drones into their system,” she stated.
While expressing skepticism about the NDC’s strategy, Daaku clarified that she does not oppose the idea of deploying drones during the December 7 general election.
Her comments advocate for embracing technological advancements in the electoral process while expressing doubts about the effectiveness of the NDC’s proposed measures.
In addition, As the political landscape evolves, the debate over the integration of technology into election monitoring remains a central focus.
Daaku’s statements underscore the ongoing deliberations within political circles concerning the implementation of innovative approaches to ensure fairness and credibility in Ghana’s elections.
