WORLD KIDNEY DAY ; Expert Advocates Prioritizing Kidney Health

In an exclusive interview with GHLIFE TV news, Dr. Osman Ibrahim, a distinguished cardiologist and CEO of Nature Blend Hospital, discussed the pivotal role kidneys play in maintaining overall health.

As the world marked World Kidney Day, Dr. Ibrahim emphasized the significance of adopting healthy lifestyle practices to safeguard kidney function.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) affects around 10% of the global population, but its impact varies across regions. Sadly, kidney diseases are a significant contributor to worldwide mortality, with an estimated 1.2 million deaths in 2017 alone.

Expenses related to dialysis, transplants, medications, and managing complications significantly add to healthcare costs and are sadly very expensive for many of the affected population to afford.

“Kidneys are one of the body’s vital organs, responsible for filtering waste and toxins from the bloodstream,” stated Dr. Ibrahim. “To promote optimal kidney health, individuals should prioritize hydration, ensuring an adequate intake of water throughout the day.”

Speaking to Jeffery Sarfo Prince, Dr. Ibrahim urged the public to prioritize sufficient sleep and stress management techniques, highlighting their significant impact on kidney function.

“Adequate sleep and stress reduction play crucial roles in maintaining healthy kidneys. Chronic stress can contribute to kidney damage over time, emphasizing the importance of stress management strategies,” he advised.

Regarding dietary habits, Dr. Ibrahim cautioned against the consumption of alcohol, energy drinks, and sugary beverages due to their potential adverse effects on kidney health.

“Excessive consumption of alcohol and sugary drinks can strain the kidneys and contribute to kidney disease. It’s essential to limit intake and opt for healthier alternatives,” he cautioned.

To continue, Dr. Ibrahim advised against the consumption of fatty meats and prolonged retention of urine, emphasizing the importance of timely voiding.

“Avoiding fatty meats and not delaying urination when the urge arises can reduce the risk of kidney complications,” he mentioned.

Additionally, Dr. Ibrahim highlighted the negative impact of spicy foods on kidney health, urging individuals to moderate their consumption.

“Spicy foods can exacerbate kidney issues and should be consumed in moderation or avoided, particularly by individuals with existing kidney conditions,” he said.

As the global community observes World Kidney Day, Dr. Ibrahim’s expert insights serve as a timely reminder of the importance of proactive measures to protect kidney health. Embracing a balanced lifestyle, characterized by hydration, adequate sleep, stress management, and mindful dietary choices, is crucial in promoting long-term kidney well-being.
