The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has reaffirmed that the country is not experiencing any power outages, popularly referred to as “dumsor,” at present.
In a recent statement, the ECG clarified that there is no active load-shedding program in place, contrary to some circulating reports suggesting otherwise.
Despite public calls for a schedule outlining potential power cuts, both the ECG and the Minister of Energy, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, maintain that the power distribution entity is not implementing any load-shedding measures.
In an earlier communiqué, ECG stated that some 630 of its overloaded transformers were to blame for the power cuts, but its Managing Director, Samuel Dubik Mahama, told journalists after a meeting with the Mines and Energy Committee of Parliament that the challenges with the transformers have been addressed.
“We want to assure the public that we are exerting maximum effort to ensure uninterrupted power supply. The ongoing initiatives, including the transformer upgrades and intensified maintenance activities, are nearing completion.
Therefore, it’s essential to remain optimistic. There will be an official statement detailing our future plans. As of now, it’s important to emphasize that we are not implementing any load-shedding measures.”
